ABS Supports UC Santa Barbara's Sustainability Efforts
UC Santa Barbara is committed to fostering a culture of environmental responsibility through campus-wide sustainability efforts. UCSB ensures all students understand the connection between the environment, the economy, and social systems—and the role everyone must play to sustain the planet.
To that end, UCSB contracted Alco Building Solutions (ABS) to audit, design, and implement LED lighting and lighting controls for a period of three years. LED lighting provides better light quality, color rendering, reduced energy consumption, and costs. And, since LED light bulbs commonly last longer than 10 years, maintenance efforts are also reduced.
The UCSB lighting project builds upon the School Project for Utility Rate Reduction (SPURR) awarded to ABS earlier this year. SPURR is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) with over 250 member California K-12 public school districts, community college districts, and county offices of education.
ABS offers robust solutions for colleges, universities, and schools. Joshua Veblen, ABS Chief Operating Officer, was quoted as “we commonly implement projects that target energy efficiency, energy generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and general construction for our clients every day. As a General B (Builder) & C-10 (Electrical) contractor, with a professional services/engineering team, ABS delivers unique value to clients hoping to become more efficient and sustainable. It’s truly an honor to be working with the University of California, Santa Barbara”.
